VICTORIAN GOVERNMENT

The Victorian Government is working with Tennis Australia to enhance the Australian Open, the Grand Slam of Asia/Pacific, and ensure that it remains one of Victoria’s most prestigious hallmark events.
An independent economic impact study of the 2007 Australian Open showed the event provided a Gross Economic Benefit of $241.6 million to Victoria and generated 4600 jobs.
This study showed that 79 per cent of interstate visitors and 53 per cent of overseas visitors to the Australian Open would not have visited Victoria that year if the tennis was not held here. Tourism contributes a staggering $10.9 billion each year to Victoria’s economy
The Brumby Government is proud to be supporting the Australian Open Tennis Championships, one of the highlights of Victoria’s remarkable calendar of annual and one-off international events.
